A Stronger UK Through Fair Devolution

A Stronger UK Through Fair Devolution
The government should support devolution while making sure that every part of the UK benefits from economic growth, good public services and fair funding. The government's first priority should be growing the economy. It could do this by reducing unnecessary regulations for small businesses, lowering business taxes where possible and investing in transport, energy and broadband infrastructure. These changes would encourage companies to invest, create more jobs and improve living standards across the UK. The second priority should be improving public services, especially the NHS and policing. The government should focus on reducing waste, making better use of technology and directing more money towards frontline staff rather than administration. Setting clear performance targets for local governments and rewarding those that improve services would help ensure taxpayers receive better value for their money. The third priority should be making devolution fairer and more accountable. The government could review the funding system to make sure money is distributed based on need rather than outdated formulas.
